New Years Eve

Another year is over and another year is beginning. I have no insight into the events of the past year or decade. I’ll leave that to CNN, FOXNEWS, and all the networks. I do have a prayer though…that God will reveal Himself more fully to me and through me in 2010. No one can predict what tomorrow might bring…much less the next 365 days. So, simply put: may God make Himself more clearly known in my life so that He might be more visibly known through my life.

Happy New Year!

14 Weeks?

Imagine my surprise when one of my emails- from Lifeway no less- reminded me that there are just 14 weeks till Easter! Goodness. Wasn’t Christmas just a few days ago? We haven’t even had New Years yet…and talk of Easter? I am thankful for the email, though, because Easter IS 14 weeks away. The way Sunday’s fall in my life that seems like tomorrow. I’m also glad to be reminded because, quit frankly, as one who struggles with depression on a regular basis during the year- and even a little more during the holidays when I don’t eat and exercise like I should- it is encouraging to think of Easter. No matter how dark and cold the days are in the middle of winter, there is resurrection promise! There is new life- even out of death. So, thanks to Pastor’s Today from Lifeway.com…Easter is only 14 weeks away! But, I think I’ll not start planning for Easter till at least 2010 begins!

Sunday…Sunday

The last Sunday of 2009. Time flies when you are having fun…and even when you are not having fun! It has been an enjoyable Christmas. Tomorrow we leave for a few days with a dear friend in Bonanza, OR. Anice has been like a grandmother to our children…and our daughter reminded us we haven’t seen her for a couple of years…so, tomorrow we head to the boonies- literally! Looking forward to seeing Anice and her two boys.

Sunday’s continue to pile up. It seems that Sunday’s occur every four days now. Even though we have a Southern Gospel group sharing a concert this morning, preparation for Sunday is a never-ending process. Well, it’s time to open up the building, make sure the coffee is on, get the announcement Powerpoint running so we can worship and share together as the people of God!

Twas the Day After Christmas

Twas the day after Christmas and finally everyone is stirring…ready for the second biggest shopping day of the holidays. After a nice and quiet Christmas Day today we brace the crowds and the rush just to see what is what on the day after Christmas!
On another note- I’ve watched several movies this week- some on the Hallmark channel (I know…there goes the man card); one in the theater (The Blind Side…excellent movie); and then one yesterday (The Proposal- a gfit to my daughter…). What strikes me after these ‘feel good’ movies is how desperate we all are for significance in the eyes of those closest to us. We all hunger to be loved and to love. We all hunger to feel powerful emotions and to experience life. Yet, for far too many of us movies are as close as we get. We never quite capture the passion, we never quite manage to experience the rush we see actors portray on the screen. On this day after Christmas, my wish is that I- and others in my family- would discover the passion and rush of life where we live—instead of seeking to do it vicariously through movie characters…let’s endeavor to live this life to the fullest. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year…and may God’s presence be more real today than ever before!
